MPs’ Educational Background

Out of 151 Members of Parliament, 112 acquired university qualifications, 19 MPs have two-year post-secondary school qualifications and 20 have secondary school qualifications.

Out of 114 men MPs 80 are university-educated, 15 have two-year post-secondary school qualifications and 19 completed secondary school education. As for the female MPs, 32 hold a university degree, four graduated from a two-year post-secondary school college and one is a secondary-school graduate.

Most of the university-educated MPs, 45 of them, come from the ranks of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), 39 are members of the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ), nine are members of the Croatian People’s Party (HNS), and four are members of the Croatian Democratic Alliance of Slavonia and Baranja (HDSSB). The Croatian Labourists – Labour Party, the Istrian Democratic Assembly (IDS), the Croatian Party of Pensioners (HSU) and the Independent Democratic Serbian Party (SDSS) each have two university-educated MPs, while the Croatian Peasant Party (HSS) and the Bosnian Democratic Party of Croatia (BDSH) each have one. Five out of six Independent MPs hold a university degree. As for the MPs holding a doctoral degree, six come from the ranks of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), three are members of the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ), three are independent, one doctor MP belongs to the Istrian Democratic Assembly (IDS) and one to the Independent Democratic Serbian Party (SDSS).
