Scouts bring Bethlehem Light to Zagreb Cathedral

Photo: HinaZagreb - Members of the Croatian Scouts Alliance, which this year again organised the arrival of the Bethlehem Light in Croatia, handed the Light to Parliament Speaker Gordan Jandroković on Sunday, and he handed it to the rector of the Zagreb Cathedral, Msgr. Josip Kuhtić.

The Bethlehem Light is a symbol of Christmas and in the Bible it symbolises the birth of Jesus, which was a promise of peace to all people of good will. The sharing of the Bethlehem Light is a reminder for people of good will to wish one another peace and well-being and to spread peace.

Jandroković recalled that the Peace Light of Bethlehem programme started in Austria in the mid-1980s and that it arrived in Croatia in 1992. The national event is held under the auspices of the Croatian Parliament.

Mass was served in the Zagreb Cathedral after the Bethlehem Light was brought into the cathedral.

The Bethlehem Light is lit by Austrian scouts in the Church of the Nativity in Bethlehem and is then taken to Vienna, from where other scouts from Europe and America take it to their own countries, Croatian Scouts Alliance head Željko Roglić said.
