Leko and Holguin discuss closer ties between Croatia and Colombia

Zagreb - Croatian Parliament Speaker Josip Leko met with visiting Colombian Foreign Minister Maria Angela Holguin Cuellar in Zagreb on Friday to discuss ways of promoting political and economic relations between the two countries as well as multilateral cooperation within international organisations, Leko's office said in a press release.

"Relations can be well developed even when countries are geographically distant, such as ours," Leko said, adding that Croatia was interested in global politics and relations with countries outside the European Union.
Holguin said that Colombia has not been focused on global politics because of internal armed conflicts that have been going on for 50 years and that President Juan Manuel Santos was trying to change that.

"We are looking for new partners for cooperation in trade and at political and multilateral levels. We consider Croatia to be one of those countries," Holguin said. She said that Colombia recorded a continued growth rate of 4-5% annually and that 2.5 million jobs had been opened in the last three years. Holguin said that her country had signed a free trade agreement with the EU. (HINA)
