Croatian parliament passes Traffic Privileges Act, ratifies Anti-Bribery Convention

Zagreb - The Croatian parliament passed the Traffic Privileges Act on Friday, regulating privileges in rail, maritime and road  traffic.

The law regulates the right to privilege travel for students, persons with disabilities, civil invalids, disabled Homeland War veterans and civilian victims of the Homeland War. It introduces national and European ID cards and European parking cards for persons with disabilities.

Thanks to the adoption of several amendments put forward by Ljubica Lukačić from the ruling HDZ, deaf and mute persons were added to the list of persons with disabilities entitled to exemption from payment of motorway tolls.

Parliament also passed the Restrictive Measures Act, regulating in greater detail the procedures and mutual relations of all entities involved in the enforcement of sanctions. It should help Croatia implement the new and increasingly complex sanctions regimes of the European Union much more successfully.

The Convention on Combating Bribery of Foreign Public Officials in International Business Transactions was ratified. It requires states parties s to criminalise bribery of foreign public officials in international business transactions committed by natural persons in their national legislation. To date, 45 countries have become parties to the Convention, 38 of which are members of the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD).
