Zagreb - Croatian Parliament Speaker Gordan Jandroković has issued a message for International Romani Day, observed on 8 April, saying that Croatia persists in promoting the status of the Romani and their social integration, in particular the integration of young people into the education system.
"Croatia appreciates the contribution of its ethnic minorities to the cultural wealth and diversity of our homeland. We persist in our efforts to continue working, together with the Romani community and based on the Constitutional Law on the rights of ethnic minorities, on the promotion of the status of the Romani and their social integration, in particular, the integration of young people into the education system," Jandroković said.
"Our task is to continue building our society in a spirit of tolerance, based on solidarity, mutual understanding, and respect for differences, as well as on our common values that connect us closer together and make us stronger in times full of challenges," he said.
International Romani Day is observed on 8 April in memory of the first World Romani Congress held in London in 1971, when decisions were made on the official Romani anthem, flag, and language. That made a great contribution to the promotion of Romani identity, culture, history, tradition, language, and alphabet.
