Zagreb - Parliament Speaker Gordan Jandroković on Wednesday congratulated Croatian citizens on Anti-Fascist Struggle Day, saying the values of Anti-Fascism were built into the fundamentals of Croatia's Constitution and the Declaration on Anti-Fascism.
On this day we remember 22 June 1941 when the first Partisan detachment was founded in Brezovica Forest near Sisak. The anti-Fascist movement shaped the future of Europe, and Croatia made its contribution to the struggle against Fascism in the Second World War thus it also contributed to the new European history, Jandroković said in his message.
He recalls that the Croatian parliament adopted the Declaration on Anti-Fascism in 2005 on the 60th anniversary of the victory over fascism.
In the current times when Europe and the whole world are faced with the consequences of Russia's aggression against Ukraine, the biggest armed conflict in Europe since the end of WW2, we are becoming more and more aware of the importance of the preservation of peace, democracy, and freedom, says Jandroković.
The Croatian people who remember the fight for its freedom during the 1991-1995 Homeland War are committed to the European values of the rule of law, solidarity, tolerance, and respect for human dignity, says the Parliament Speaker.
It is our duty to prove by our actions our consistency in refuting every form of extremism and totalitarianism and to express our dedication to democracy, mutual respect, and the respect for diversity reads Jandroković's message.
