Croatian Parliament Speaker Gordan Jandroković received Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico

Zagreb - Croatian Parliament Speaker Gordan Jandroković received Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico, as part of his official visit to the Republic of Croatia.

Their talks focused on the minority communities as well as cultural and economic cooperation.

The Croatian minority in Slovakia and the Slovak minority in Croatia remain a strong link between the two countries, the interlocutors agreed.

In Slovakia, classes in Croatian are held in primary schools across four districts of Bratislava where Croats reside, as well as in one local high school. Additionally, Comenius University in Bratislava hosts a department of Croatian language with a Croatian language lecturer.

The two sides today signed a Programme of Cooperation between the two Ministries of Culture for the period from 2025 to 2029, establishing a framework for future cultural collaboration between Croatia and Slovakia.

Fico and Jandroković also discussed very positive economic indicators. In 2024, bilateral trade exceeded €1.5 billion, and over 530,000 Slovak tourists visited Croatia. They noted there is significant potential for enhancing cooperation in agriculture, the food, pharmaceutical, and defence industries, as well as in the IT sector and tourism.

Fico also expressed strong support for Croatia's bid to join the OECD.
