Zagreb - The Croatian parliament on Friday amended the Law on Croatian Homeland War Veterans to enhance the veterans' basic entitlements and allowances, enable them to stay longer on the labour market, and create conditions for the establishment of war veterans' centres.
National allowance raised to €150
The parliament also adopted a government proposal to raise the national allowance for the elderly without a pension or some other type of income from €120 to €150 in 2024.
The current law on the national allowance for the elderly, which entered into force on 1 January 2021, provides for an income for Croatian citizens over the age of 65 who have not secured an old age income and are not entitled to a pension. As of 1 January, this monthly allowance will be €150.
The government proposal makes conditions for obtaining the national allowance less strict and enables its payment via post.
Under the proposal, the income threshold for the national allowance is raised to double the amount of the national allowance, that is, €300 per household member per month in 2024.
At the time of its introduction in 2020, the national allowance amounted to €106.
