Zagreb - The Domestic Policy and National Security Committee on Wednesday convened to discuss the 12 October 2020 attack on Government House in Zagreb and the arrests of individuals over their acrimonious and insulting comments on social networks.
In attendance at today's meeting, which is being held behind closed doors, is Prime Minister Andrej Plenković, as well as his advisor Robert Kopal, State Attorney Zlata Hrvoj-Šipek, the police director, Nikola Milina, and the head of the Security and Intelligence Agency (SOA), Daniel Markić.
The committee is supposed to discuss the reports of the relevant agencies about the 12 October 2020 attack.
Last year, the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office (DORH) stated that the 12 October 2020 attack, carried out by 23-year-old Danijel Bezuk, was an act of terrorism but that the attacker did not have an abettor or instigator.
In July 2021, due to the fact that he was dead, the Zagreb County Prosecutor's Office dismissed the charges against the 23-year-old Bezuk, who committed suicide after wounding police officer Oskar Fiuri, 32, while shooting at the government building in St. Mark's Square in the morning of 12 October 2020.
After the shooting, Bezuk took off, and just before committing suicide not far from the scene of the crime shortly after that, he posted a message on social media that said, "Enough of fraud and ruthless trampling of human values without any accountability." Before it was deleted, the post was supported by more than 1,000 people who, in their comments below it, spread hate speech and incited violence.
