Zagreb - The government has sent a draft national consumer protection programme for the period 2021 - 2024 to Parliament, defining objectives, benchmarks, priorities and activities in implementing consumer protection policies.

The draft, presented to the cabinet on Thursday, was prepared by the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development and it is geared towards more efficient market supervision and towards informing and educating consumers better so they can make informed decisions, think about their health and safety, and in that way encourage sustainable consumption.

Minister Tomislav Ćorić said among the programme's most significant priorities was the need to further develop legislation at the national level, enhance market supervision in relation to consumer rights protection, improve consumer protection in a digital environment, and enhance policies of sustainable consumption and energy efficiency as well as consumer protection during the introduction of the euro.
