Minister Vučković presented the draft amendments to the legislation on aquaculture and fisheries

Zagreb - Agriculture Minister Marija Vučković on Friday informed the parliament about good results in Croatia's marine and freshwater fisheries and significant investments in this sector.

Three years agom the export of marine fish farms had totalled €208 million, and the import had been worth €178 million, Three years later, the export reached €278 and import €196, she said while presenting the draft amendments to the legislation on aquaculture and fisheries.

Concerning the sector of aquaculture, the exports increased 31% last year compared to 2019, she added.

She said that the fishing sector and aquaculture are a strategic economic sector.

 As for the challenges stemming from the quotas for small pelagic fish, the minister said that the catch of small pelagic fish amounted to 90% of the total catch of fish and the value made up 60% of the total value of the whole catch.

She said that Croatia should be braced for further restrictions in the catch of small pelagic fish for the purpose of the protection of sardine and anchovy stocks and the country has managed to obtain a transitional period in the EU.
