Parliament Speaker says everything Croat people always wanted was achieved 23 years ago

Zagreb - Parliament Speaker Gordan Jandroković said that everything the Croatian people ever wanted, namely a free, independent, modern and democratic Croatia, was achieved 23 years ago, when the Croatian flag was hoisted at the Knin fortress, which symbolically marked the end of the Homeland War.

"This dream was difficult to achieve because many lives had to be lost for Croatia, its peace and freedom, the lives of our soldiers, our people. But as Croatia's first President Franjo Tudjman, under whose leadership we created Croatia and won the Homeland War, used to say, every unselfish sacrifice pro patria is never in vain," Jandroković said at the central celebration of Victory and Homeland Thanksgiving Day, Croatian War Veterans Day and the 23rd anniversary of Operation Storm in Knin on Sunday. He added that Croatia must forever be thankful to them.

Jandroković reiterated that with their magnificent victories in the Homeland War, the Croatian soldiers had forever changed the balance of forces, ended the Greater Serbian aggression against Croatia and strengthen and positioned Croatia on the world map. He reiterated that the key for the victory in the Homeland War was patriotism. He underlined that Croatia today celebrated one of the most important victories in the history of the Croatian people.

Jandroković emphasised it was important to preserve the historical truth and bow before Croatia's heroes. (Hina)
