Bill on private security sent to parliament

Zagreb - A new bill on private security which the government sent into parliamentary procedure on Thursday recommends that private security companies can in future be allowed to employ people with primary school qualifications.

Currently one or two years of secondary education is required to conduct the job of a private security guard.

Interior Minister Davor Božinović underscored that the current law dates back to 2003.

There are 53 private security companies in Croatia, 111 companies provide technical protection and 147 provide security guard services with a total of 16,500 actively employed security guards.

The bill, among other things, regulates that owners or tenants of buildings that belong to categories I and II are obliged to engage someone to be responsible of organising and conducting interior security checks.

The bill also proposes that a ministry commission be established to implement procedures to evaluate the legality of use of force, Božinović noted.
