Croatian and German parliament heads meet and discuss cooperation

Zagreb - At the end of his visit to Berlin on the occasion of the ratification of Croatia's European Union accession treaty in the Bundesrat, Croatian Parliament Speaker Josip Leko met with the president of the German upper house, Winfried Kretschmann, with whom he spoke about cooperation between the two countries once Croatia joins the EU, the Sabor reported on Friday.

Leko thanked the German parliament for the strong support for Croatia's membership in the European Union as well as all the assistance Germany offered during the accession process.
He underscored that cooperation with Germany will be necessary even after Croatia joins the Union so that it can achieve its objectives, a press release says.

- Welcome to the European Union, Kretschmann said to the parliament speaker and all Croatian citizens, expressing his pleasure that the Bundesrat had unanimously ratified Croatia's accession treaty. He believes that Croatia will make the EU richer with its culture and tradition. He welcomed Croatia's participation in the Danube Strategy, which he said is the second macro-region in Europe and that many German states are actively involved in the strategy.

A meeting of parliamentary speakers of the 14 countries in the Danube Strategy is scheduled for July in the Germany city o Ulm, the press release says. (Hina)
