Zagreb - Croatian Parliament Speaker Gordan Jandroković met in Copenhagen on Monday with the heads of the upper houses of the Czech and Belgian parliaments, discussing the Western Balkans and EU enlargement.
Jandroković, attending the Conference of Speakers of EU Parliaments, held separate talks with Czech Senate President Miloš Vystrčil and Belgian Senate President Vincent Blondel.
He briefed his Czech counterpart on the current situation in the Western Balkans and stressed the need for full alignment with the EU’s Common Foreign and Security Policy.
He expressed regret that not all candidate countries complied, which, he said, raises doubts about their commitment to European values and causes concern among supporters of enlargement.
With his Belgian counterpart, Jandroković discussed EU enlargement and the wide-ranging impact of the wars in Ukraine and the Middle East. They agreed that growing global uncertainty called for close, ongoing coordination among like-minded allies such as Croatia and Belgium.
Jandroković and Vystrčil reaffirmed traditionally strong bilateral relations, marked by increasing trade and a steady influx of Czech tourists to Croatia. During the talks with Blondel, the parliament speaker noted strong potential to further boost cooperation in trade and investment, tourism and culture, science and education, as well as defence, demining and technological innovation.
