Parliament amends law on consolidation of agricultural land

Zagreb - The consolidation of agricultural land is expected to accelerate soon after the parliament on Wednesday amended the law on the consolidation of agricultural land, which lays the groundwork for this process.

At the government’s proposal, parliament amended the law in fast track, with the aim of consolidating 18,000 hectares of land by 2026 and creating the conditions for drawing EU funds.

Under the new rules, obtaining consent from landowners for planned consolidations should become easier.

Instead of requiring the consent of at least 50% plus one of the landowners, it will now be sufficient to obtain consent from at least 5%. Furthermore, rather than those landowners having to own at least 67% of the area covered by the consolidation, it will now be enough if they own at least 10%.

The Ministry of Agriculture will be able to carry out the consolidation independently on a given area in the interest of the state, without the consent of landowners, if more than half of the land in question is state-owned.

Land subject to consolidation may be located within one or more municipalities or cities, and individual plots of land may be included in or excluded from the consolidation area.
