Zagreb - The Croatian parliament will discuss two items on the agenda on Wednesday, including the final text of a bill on international development cooperation and humanitarian aid.
The goals of international development cooperation are to contribute to the reduction of poverty and inequality in partner countries, and the goals of humanitarian aid are to support, help and protect the population of partner countries in circumstances of natural disasters and crises caused by natural or human action.
The current Development Cooperation and Humanitarian Aid Act was adopted in 2008 and it does not cover key elements, the fact that Croatia became a member of the EU and its transition from the category of recipient to the category of provider of development aid.
The new law will enable the necessary adjustments to the new instruments in the implementation of development cooperation, which are not regulated by the current law, and which result from the obligations assumed by Croatia's membership in the EU.
In addition, more propulsive action will be enabled in cooperation with development cooperation stakeholders, especially civil society organisations and the private sector.
The parliament will also discuss amendments to the Act on Climate Change and Protection of the Ozone Layer, which harmonise domestic legislation with the EU acquis in the area of the greenhouse gas emissions trading system.
