Parliament passes law on inclusive allowance, amends law on child allowance

Zagreb - The parliament on Friday adopted the law on inclusive allowance and amended the child allowance legislation.

The inclusive allowance legislation, which takes effect on 1 January 2024, combines former four types of allowances and creates a transparent, more efficient and more just social welfare system.

The inclusive allowance will be granted to more than 150,000 persons with disabilities, for which over €500 million will be set aside annually.

The monthly allowance can be €138, €430, €480 and €720, depending on the health and disability status of a recipient.

Under the amended  child allowance law, the means test for eligibility will be amended and the amended law, which will take effect on 1 March 2024, is supposed to cover 271,000 recipients who have 510,000 children. Thus, two thirds of children and teenagers in Croatia under 19 will be covered by this benefit.

Also, the monthly amount of allowances will rise between 30 and 60 euros, depending on the eligibility criteria, too.

The budget allocation for this purpose will be €89 million in 2024, €159 million in 2025, and €150 million in 2026.
