Reconstruction of parliament building likely to be completed in mid-2028

Zagreb - Sabor Speaker Gordan Jandroković on Monday inspected the ongoing works at the Croatian Parliament building in St. Mark's Square and stated that due to additional works and structural reinforcement, the completion of the project is now expected in spring 2028 instead of 2027.

"After the start of construction, it was determined that the building's structure was not at the level initially expected. Therefore, we began reinforcing all the foundations, and 400 reinforced concrete frames will be installed above the doors and various lintels. There will be a slight delay in the completion of the works, and the contractor now estimates that the works will be completed in the spring of 2028," Jandroković told reporters after touring the site.

He said that moving into the Parliament building a little later is a minor issue, whereas it would be a much greater problem "if the building and the works were not carried out to the highest possible standard".

Jandroković emphasised that upon completion of the works, 2,800 square metres of new space will be gained.

The chairman of the board of the company Ing-Grad, Branislav Brizar, said that despite the greater scope of works, the project would not become more expensive, as the works in question are relatively inexpensive construction activities.

He explained that the project's cost could rise later on, as the more expensive stages, such as craft, installation, and similar works, are yet to come.
